Q - What is the difference between kerosene and gas oil?

A - Kerosene, also known as 28-second oil (or more commonly home heating oil), is produced after the distillation process of crude oil. Most domestic systems run on kerosene because it provides a cleaner and more efficient burn for your home.

Gas oil (red diesel), also known as 35-second oil, is more commonly used in agriculture and industry. Gas oil is less combustible than kerosene and has more carbon atoms.

Q - What is the VAT on heating oil?

A - Domestic customers buying heating oil are charged VAT at just 5%, regardless of the quantity.

Q - My tank is a little way from the road. Will you still be able to deliver?

A - Most of our tankers have a 120ft maximum hose, which can be pulled out to make the delivery. This means we can even deliver if your tank is tucked away and seemingly hard to get to.

Q - What is the minimum delivery?

A - The minimum delivery we can make by law is 500 litres. However, the larger the delivery you can take, the greater the economies of scale.

Q - Can you make unattended deliveries?

A - Yes, providing we can gain access to your tank. All our deliveries are metered and you will receive a printed read out of the precise amount dispensed. These meters are regularly checked by Trading Standards.

So, there's usually no need for you to stay at home for us to make your delivery.

Q - What is Signalman?

A - Signalman is an automatic fuel tank gauge, which allow us to monitor your oil supply for you. This means you no longer have the inconvenience of checking your tank and ordering fuel yourself.

Q - How can I get advice on running my home heating system more efficiently?

A - OFTEC is the organisation responsible for looking after the oil heating and cooking industry throughout the UK and Ireland. The OFTEC website has a wide range of information, including some great tips for increasing the efficiency of your home heating system.

Q - How can I find out about oil storage rules and regulations?

A - Even a small oil spillage can have a devastating effect on the local environment and because of this oil storage within the UK is understandably highly regulated.

It’s worth spending a few minutes making sure your storage tank complies with the rules. You can get all the information to do this by visiting the sites below or phoning in to our office.
